With the Octane, OCZ has an SSD in its portfolio that comes with quite a competitive price performance ratio. Especially the SATA-II version, which hasn't been tested here, comes with a very affordable price tag. At the end of the day you get 31'000 IOPS when doing 4k reads and 20'000 IOPS when performing 4k writes. Therefore the Octane with 512 Gigabyte is quite an ok performing SSD.
A closer look at the sequential speeds reveals the robust performance level at the higher block sizes. Regarding sequential reads we see a maximum value of 468 Megabyte per second. Concerning sequential writes the drive tops out at 308 Megabyte per seconds. If you keep in mind that the new Indilinx controller doesnt care about compression, one could even think about using this drive as a very well performing storage drive instead of a fast system disk.
The fact that you also get a good bundle with this drive really makes it worth its price.
