OCZ Vertex 3 has the right recipe for the right Wonga by Eteknix / United Kingdom
Review:
OCZ Vertex 3; The right recipe for the right amount of Wonga
We mentioned that OCZ are typically the best around, they have the client base, they have the background and they have the right recipe for a fantastic Solid State Drive. Building off of the success of the original Vertex and Vertex 2 series of drives, we were holding out high hopes for this and was in no way disappointed in any area especially performance.
The Vertex 3 simply does what its set out to do and in this case its not to be the same as the competition but for a lesser price as that would mean using lesser spec internals and skimping in areas of the drive and thats not what OCZ or the Vertex range of products is about. Instead, they focus on performance and giving the very best to a customer, and if it does happen to have a high premium, then so what? You have to pay for the best if you want the best.
SATA III was the next logical move for OCZ and implementing it into the Vertex 3 was the right move, though it does seem that with the performance we saw today, its not too far away from hitting the ceiling of what the SATA III interface is truly capable of. The speeds simply were amazing when looking at the variety of tests that we performed.
More and more companies are developing similar drives, using the same SandForce SF-2281 controller but the firmware and branding behind OCZ is what makes this drive stand out from the rest as they are constantly looking at new ways to make their products better and that includes making them even faster and fixing any issues of which we found none with this drive.
The joy about the Vertex 3 is that its a very versatile product and does so by one simple measure, and thats the inclusion of the desktop adapter bracket, which allows the user to mount the drive into their desktop chassis or without to allow for easy installation into a notebook computer.
Pricing wise, its not the cheapest on the market, but that doesnt matter. As with anything you get what you pay for, and the Vertex range of drives have always been considered the drive of choice that other brands tried to live up to, so at a modest £363.89 from Scan we believe its reasonable based off the performance you get in return.
The Vertex 3 is primarily based around the performance and so any SSD should be. Im not the kind of person who wants to pay peanuts and get exactly that, as Id rather spend that little bit extra and get the crème de la crème, the cream of the crop and thats exactly what this SSD is with a reasonable price point and top-notch performance, it still leaves the Vertex 3 being one of the top drives on the market and the one to go for if youve got the right amount of Wonga for it. So tell me, what are you waiting for?
